Well with a new year starting, I thought I would list the top 10 pains I remember over the past year. So without further comment:
10. Symantec's install & update programs for Norton Anti-Virus - details here.
9. Cannot set Outlook/Exchange to allow any attachment. There are times I ask someone to email me an exe - but there is no way to allow that.
8. The image support in .NET (try to render a wmf with anti-aliasing).
7. Microsoft Small Business Server administration - it's not just a job, it's a lifelong learning commitment.
6. Security - spam, worms, phishing, etc. - are the bad guys just smarter than the good guys?
5. No ReSharper for VS 2005/J#.
4. Sun/java developer forums - most appear to be ask only. (The forum for JAI is a notable exception - excellent support.)
3. Create a web service in .NET - 5 minutes. Create a web service in java - still trying after all these years.
2. The whole Word Add-In API. (If an Add-In won't load the official Microsoft suggestion then is to guess - there is no information as to why.)
And the number 1 programming peeve of the year...
1. The A.I. kicks my butt in Civilization IV.
