Forget the election, let's talk about something important – the best place in Boulder to get a burger. I read Want Fries with That? In Yellow Scene and aside from his praise for Lark Burger, I agreed with the ones I had been to.
So we went to Salt tonight. Mediocre. All three of us left our plates half full – my burger, my wife's pasta, and my daughter's chicken. Tom's Tavern was superb – Salt is another fancy setting with mediocre food, of which Pearl St. already has way too many. Also, what's with having enough lettuce for just 1/3 of the burger? Unanimous opinion on leaving – ok but not worth going back.
So let's talk burgers in Boulder.
Awesome
- In-N-Out Burger – granted you have to fly to another state. But it is soooo good (went twice last week in Vegas).
- Five Guys – in Longmont and well worth the trip.
- Fuddruckers – Colorado Blvd near I-25 and also well worth the trip.
- Smashburger – 10 minutes away in Lafayette.
- Southern Sun – right here in Boulder!
- Carellis – also right here in Boulder!
Really good
- Boulder Beer
- Island Burger
Ok
- Big Belly
- Red Robin (when they manage to serve it cooked right and hot).
- Salt **
- Thunderbird (when they don't over-season & overcook it).
- The Sink
- Good Times
Sucks
- Lark Burger ** - I know a lot of people like it, but I think it tastes weird.
- Wendys, Burger King, & McDonalds – do these even count as a hamburger?
** Salt & Lark Burger have their own special mayonnaise. Guys, there's a reason regular mayonnaise is made the way it is – that's what most people want. If you want to have your own mayonnaise also that's great. But make it an option. And if no one selects your special mayonnaise – that's telling you something.
