Ok, I have only looked at one BVSD candidate website (because I cannot find the website of any others). So this is not an endorsement because I need to look at all the candidates first. But with that said - WOW!
Rosabelle Rice (website here) has clearly put in a lot of time working to improve the schools here. But what really impressed me was what issues she listed - and her answers on three of them. This shows a really good balance between what is needed and what is possible.
So I will let her words speak for themselves:
Do you think CSAP tests are a fair way to evaluate students and schools? This be a starting point, not a final measure of performance. Accountability is necessary, but CSAP doesn’t account for square pegs, and some school are suffering unfairly.
Do you think the district is on the right track in addressing the achievement gap for minority students? What ideas do you have to reduce the gap? Yes! Create more dual immersion schools, create programs where they can build on successes, so all our children can on to college together should they choose.
Do Boulder Valley schools receive adequate resources to educate students? Given how school without PTAs are suffering to make ends meet, I would say they are not.
And with the horrendous drop-out rate we presently have for poor Latino/a students, having 1 board member focused on what they need to succeed is not just useful, but absolutely necessary.
