Ok, apparently none of them read this entry. Ok guys (meant in a gender neutral way) - we want people that will solve problems. Not people that just try to live with problems.
Laurie Albright B- : Ok, the cell phone is worthless (a global satellite phone would be very useful) but the flares could get you off. But you better hope the flares get you rescued quickly because otherwise you are going to starve to death - probably before you finish your book.
Ed Gazvoda F- : Wow, a wrecked ship and nothing else. No chance of rescue and no help getting food. Ed's a gonner.
Helayne Jones A+ : Perfect answer.
Jim Reed C+ : Ok, Jim is never getting off the island but he will live there a long time. So he learns to survive the problem, but not eliminate it.
Rosabelle Rice C- : Ok, she is probably going to survive although a bottle of sunscreen is weird as it will run out. But she's never being rescued - and neither is her husband.
Ken Roberge C- : Very similar to Rosabelle's answer. Matches instead of sunscreen which makes a bit more sense as you would try to keep a fire constantly burning and so would only need a match for when it occasionally went out. But never being rescued - and neither is his wife.
John Satter C+ : Similar answer to Jim, he's never getting off the island but very sensible answers for surviving on the island.
If these candidate's problem solving skills are similar when trying to improve BVSD we are in a lot of trouble (with the commendable exception of Helayne).
